Have you guys seen our newest menu, the Bulgogi Bake? It is our Uber Eats exclusive menu, and we load chewy and crunchy pizza dough with our house-marinated bulgogi and cheese. There is a promotion on the Uber Eats app, so please don’t miss out!
This time, I have some stories of our baker, J, related to our new menu. If I haven’t mentioned so already, J was part of our Bulgogi Bake project as a team member. And yes, he was a terrible one. While we thought that this project would be a simple one, J was able to make it a long and difficult one. Accordingly, there are many stories and occurrences about this. Let me start with one today.
One day, our boss told J to prepare 50 pizza doughs so that we could test out what the size and thickness of it should be. It seemed all fine when he calculated the recipe for 50 portions, made the dough and divided them. Following the recipe, we left the dough in the fridge overnight.
Sincerely speaking, I am amazed at what J did the next day. Let me explain what he had done. For whatever reason, he thought that when the boss told him to make 50 pieces of dough, the boss meant he had to make 50 portions of Bulgogi Bake. The next day, he went to his project manager and asked her to make 50 Bulgogi Bakes together, believing so. It must have been puzzling for the project manager why she had to make such a massive number when she did not even have the costs and final recipe. But as J pushed, saying that it was the order from the boss, the project manager gave in. J somehow convinced his superiors to work for him with an imaginary order from the boss! That blew my mind when I heard it.
On that day, I was at the Wicked Cafe at Fairview (1399 W 7th Avenue), doing my night delivery shift. On that day, the boss told me that because J‘s job as a baker was not satisfactory, he wanted me to teach him to do the delivery shift as well. Oddly enough, although the end of my schedule was approaching, I was not seeing him. I texted him, asking where he was and what he was doing. He, seemingly stressed, told me he was working on the project the boss gave him at the Wicked Cafe at West Point Grey (3605 W 16th Avenue). Wait, what? The boss told me he was going to show up here!
Immediately, I double-checked with my boss what was going on. Then he told me that he did not give J any orders. Yes, as I said, J was working on his imaginary order (from his imaginary boss, perhaps) and convinced others to work with him! J realized there was no such order only after the boss called him. In fact, the only assignment for him on that day was to come to the Fairview location and learn how to make coffee from me.
So he came to learn how to make coffee at almost midnight that day. Ever since he has been working as both a baker and delivery person. And yes, with more stories to come!
