Hello for today I will be sharing a recipe very close to heart ๐Ÿฅนโค๏ธ

this is my grandmother’s winter melon soup recipe!

Growing up in Vancouver, my grandmother on my father’s side raised me, and she and many of our Cantonese speaking neighbors grew this vegetable!

It’s official name is Chayote but my grandparents just called it ‘gwaw-gwaw’. I loved this soup growing up and when I was 16 my grandmother teached me how to make it. This is the only family recipe I know and have, so it’s very special to me.

So first you have to purchase these veggies. In Vancouver, you can find this veggie at almost all grocery stores or market. You will also need, sugar, salt, oil and eggs.

Start by washing and peeling your Chayote.

I am were gloves because I am slightly elergic to this veggies raw juice after peeling on my skin ๐Ÿ˜… but after I cook it I am totally fine ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

After peeling, and slice them up however.keep the seed ๐Ÿ˜‹.

Then add to a pot and add all ingredients + boiling water.

For the amount of each ingredient, just eye ball it but don’t use too much oil!

Let it boil for 20-25min until you can smell it in the room and when the Veggie slices are soft. Make sure to keep tastings it to see if it needs more salt ๐Ÿง‚

When it’s almost ready take 1 or 2 eggs and mix them in a separate bowl. Then turn up the heat on the soup, spin it fast! And slowly drip the egg into the pot of hot soup and keep stirring the pot fast!

Then it’s ready to eat!

You can add anything to the soup you want. Sometimes I eat it as is or I like adding some snow peas ๐Ÿซ› ๐Ÿ˜‹

that’s it!!! Thank you for reading ๐Ÿฅน
