Starting today, I wanna share what kind of things where I work, Wicked Cafe, sells! Of course, many of you will miss hearing about Baker J. So I asked him to take some pictures when he made some of our goods. I would not say he has the best camera in the world (and obviously, Photographer J is not the best either), so please excuse his angles and resolution.
What J made today was Jambon Beurre sandwich. It is a famous French classic: ham, butter. Simple. Baker J told me he visited Paris once and had one there. Aux Champs-Élysées, there are a bunch of amazing sights and places, but also fast food places. One of those would serve their crowd with a combo consisting of a sandwich, a dessert pastry and a drink. Given the high living costs over there, Baker J ordered one with Jambon Beurre, which was the cheapest on the list. Guess what! It became one of his favourite sandwiches.
At Wicked, we approach the sandwich with a bit more extra. We make our Jambon Beurre with fresh, unsalted butter, lean sliced pork ham, and a slice of Brie to finish it. Just like the original Baker J tried in France, such a simple recipe satisfies many of our customers (and staff, like Baker J), making it one of the most popular sandwiches we have. Especially with our house-baked chewy ciabattas, it is a masterpiece. Baker J took several photos of how he makes them, so let’s look!
At first, we start by setting up the ingredients. We need ciabatta bread, brie cheese, lean ham and unsalted butter to make Jambon Beurre, Wicked style.
Baker J usually starts by slicing the cheese according to the number of sandwiches he makes (Can you see how he tried to make it look pretty? Haha).
After that, we cut open the ciabatta bread, applying a generous amount of unsalted butter on both sides. How can we call it Jambon Beurre if we try to save on our butter?
Baker J then places slices of hams, another necessity for Jambon Beurre, on the buttered bread. The original recipe would close the bread door here, making it a complete sandwich. However, we do not stop here!
Then, we put the slices of Brie cheese on the bed of ham slices. Given that Brie is another masterpiece from France, how can its mariage with Jambon Beurre go wrong?
We then close the sandwich with a buttered top–and that is our Jambon Beurre! Wicked Cafe is a cafe, but its sandwiches are famous for a good reason. Come check out our two locations to see how these sandwiches taste! And trust me, J’s photos will get better (hopefully).
