Menu Review #4: Premium Smoked Meat Sandwich

Have you guys ever been to Montréal? I heard it’s a beautiful city. Why am I suddenly talking about another city? Because I will review one of our menus: Premium Smoked Meat Sandwich! There are various types of cold meats in the world, and Smoked Meat is one of them. The variety of meat we use is called Montréal-style due to its origin–Montréal! It has, in fact, a specific place of birth. In the city’s heart, there is a famous street called Rue St. Laurent, running from south to north. Its fame comes from being a nightless quarter, home to numerous shops and restaurants. On the street, there is a world-famous kosher delicatessen called Schwartz’s. It is the birthplace of Montréal-style smoked meat and where we get the ingredients for our sandwiches!

I heard that our Baker J used to study in Montréal. He always describes it as one of the coldest metropoles in the world but also a beautiful place where you can spend your minutes mesmerized by sights. Several foods, such as poutine and smoked meat, trace their origins back to the city. 90-year-old Schwartz’s is famous for its long line-up on its door, and Baker J seems proud that he was in the line a long time ago. Well, guess what! I asked him to take some pictures when he made the sandwich–and here it goes. Again, please excuse his lack of aesthetics in photography!

First, you start by setting up the ingredients: our signature ciabatta, house-made horseradish sauce, barbecue sauce, parmesan cheese, pickled banana peppers, and of course–the famous smoked meat from Schwartz’s!

If a sandwich is a book, our ciabatta must be the cover, right? We cut open our chewy and toasty ciabattas open to welcome the ingredients as their contents. Who can resist the urge to read a sandwich with such a tempting cover?

We then apply our sauces: horseradish sauce and barbecue sauce. Both are great companions to any meat, but their pairing with Montréal-style smoked meat is irresistible.

We then top the sauces with parmesan cheese, adding a savoury flavour to the sandwich.

We then finally introduce our protagonist: smoked meat. What else can we do about it other than welcome its presence?

We give the sandwich a tangy finishing touch by adding slices of pickled banana peppers. It pairs more so well with the sandwich than how you think!

As always, the last step is to close the book; we add the top piece of ciabatta and voilà–here is our signature Premium Smoked Meat Sandwich!
