Menu Review #5: Wicked Strawberry Pot

Fresh strawberries, soil, and shovel always make our customers question, “what is this made of?” about our signature menu: Wicked Strawberry Pot. Well, that is the very type of curiosity we designed to get when we made this menu! It is actually a type of strawberry-based tiramisu cake.

Tiramisu is a popular Italian dessert created in the region of Veneto in the 1960s. The name comes from the Italian phrase tirami su, which one can literally translate into “cheer me up.” Just as the namesake goes, tiramisu has long been cheering people up with its rich taste from the irresistible pairing of mascarpone and espresso.

Its identities are rich mascarpone mix, fragrant coffee, and tender cake base. Mascarpone is a milk-fat-rich Italian cream cheese which gives tiramisu its signature flavour. In the original recipe, one can mix whipped mascarpone, eggs and espresso coffee with liquors like Amaretto. Then a cook can layer it with coffee-syrup-drenched lady finger cookies, then top with cocoa powder–and thus is how usual tiramisu goes.

Since tiramisu is a popular dessert, many chefs have created their variations. Strawberry-based one is a popular approach, also visible in Italy, from where the original recipe came.

Wicked Strawberry Pot may look like a decorative dessert–but it also is a type of strawberry-based tiramisu cake, which even won Second Place in Vancouver Foodsters’ 2022 Tiramisu Challenge! In a red cup that resembles a plant pot, we put sweet almond cakes, house-made strawberry syrup, and diced fresh strawberries.

Of course, no tiramisu is complete without rich, coffee-flavoured mascarpone cheese cream. We make our own mix with the best coffee in the town we roast! Wicked Cafe & Bakery’s best coffee with the best-quality mascarpone cheese cannot make anything other than an irresistibly rich tiramisu cream.

After all, Strawberry Pot is a flower pot–so we have to have a plant growing in it. That is why we top the rich tiramisu cream with finely ground soil made from cookies and fresh strawberries as if it is growing from it! Of course, we should not forget about our cute shovel-shaped spoons!

Some may think that our Wicked Strawberry Pot looks too pretty to be tasty–but our ingredients and recipes do not lie. Our bakers (including Baker J) always try to innovate to surprise their customers with the best ingredients. After all, making a tasty product should be any baker’s responsibility–but surprising the customers with innovations makes a baker great!
