The Roedde House Museum in Vancouver Downtown

The darling Adventures I had in a home frozen in the 1900’s

My meusum adventures are back 😃!!! And on this gorgeous summer day I learned about the Roedde family!

The admission fee was $10.

they take cash and card. The Museum was very much worth the $10 as the museum was very well maintained, they were very informative and they have tour guides and staff inside. So let me share my experiences in this downtown Vancouver Museum ~

The Roedde family had Francis Rattenbury build this house in 1893. The house was home to the Roedde Parents and there 6 children 💓💓💓

The tour guide started us off with the parlor on the ground floor,

this is the room that was exclusively used for hosting guests back in the 1900’s, and the room was specifically desiged with great acoustics since the family loved music and they had a piano there so they could use it to entertain the guests.

When I was in this room I learned more about the man who built this house, his life was so interesting that they even made a movie about his story!

In the next room was the houses main room that was used most by everyone in the home,

In this room they had the dining table and tea area

and a portrait of the queen Victoria, The raining monarch of that time. This portrait was hand made by one of the daughters of the family and I was told it was very common for families to have portraits of the royal family in there home.

The next room was the master bedroom were the parents slept. This bed room was on the ground level for two main reasons.

1) this room shared the same wall with the kitchen which had the stove and was the main Source of heat in the house, so it would make this room the warmest of all the rooms especially in winter.

2) the advantage of having it on the ground level is that they would be able to see at almost all times who was coming and going from the house at all hours.

This room was quite wonderful as it had items that the woman of this time would have and an adorable bassanet. I also found there photos of there sons who fought in the war to be also very interesting.

Moving on, the room behind the parents room was the father’s study. This office was were Mr.Roedde spent most of his time, as he was a business owner and sometimes he would bring his work back home. In life Mr.Roedde was successful and ran his own bookbinding company and such.

The last room on this floor is the kitchen! The stove back in the 1900’s would have run almost 24/7 and the sink in the kitchen was custom made by the husband for his wife since she was very small as she was only less than 5 foot tall. I liked all the tools they had from the time🤭 it’s very neat!!!

Behind the pantry was a set of small stairs that was used by the cook of the house. This set of stairs led to his private room.

Now we are on the 2nd floor. This floor had 5 rooms, a bathroom, a balcony and 3 stairs cases. We took a look at the girls room,

the boys room and the Mrs sewing room.

Each room was covered with history.

I was also told of the great tragedy of the family. That there daughter Anne was brutal murdered at work as she was a nurse, after her death the family was so heart broken that they did not allow anyone to name an more members of the family Anne since it was too painful to even hear her name.

During the tour, we were not allowed to go,

on the balcony, up the stairs to the tower were the eldest daughter slept, and the room for the eldest son was also off limits.

After we finished exploring the 2nd floor my guide lead me down the main staircase, and finished off the tour by showing me the most Treasured artifact in the whole house.

This Clock!!!!!!

It is still Functioning and is like the oldest clock in Canada🤩so very cooooool.

My favorite parts from the Roedde house was the, portrait of the queen, the mothers tea area, and the mothers sewing room!!!

This museum is probably my favorite so far in Vancouver. It was very relaxing and chill and there wasn’t too many people. And One more cool fact is that they have jazz nights in the parlor on occasion and this house is available to book as a wedding photo shoot venue!!!

I would love to visit again and I would totally recommend it to anyone who asks for an activity to do in Vancouver.

I truly had an enjoyable time, thank you for reading this far! I hope you have a great day~
